Yoshimi was born and raised in Japan. She was a big fan of American and British music, especially classic rock from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
She began playing electric bass in her 20s, and shortly thereafter, she joined a blues jam session to gain some stage experience. She also started playing in multiple blues bands in Tokyo. That experience soon became an obsession, particularly with traditional Chicago blues.
After visiting Chicago and playing with local blues musicians, Yoshimi decided to relocate to Chicago to pursue her musical ambitions. She has played with Tail Dragger, Willie Buck, and Johnny Burgin and currently plays with Mississippi Heat, Woodlawn Four, and others. Her playing style is heavily influenced by Dave Myers, Earnest Johnson, and other masters of Post-War Chicago Blues.
